Yesterday one of the crews was out repairing the home of an elderly lady. She’d already hired and paid a contractor to make the repairs, but the work he did was, well, to put it tactfully, sub-standard. (apparently, this has been quite common since Katrina). Her front door wouldn’t open or close properly, making it impossible for her to lock the door. She has been bothered by what she calls “kids” coming into her house at all hours of the day a night. She told the volunteers that if another “kid” came into her house she was going to “shoot him dead”.
The volunteers were going back to her house today to finish the roof and fix the front door. They decided to call first to announce their arrival….just in case she really had a gun. We counted noses a lunch time and they all had made it back without bullet wounds

Hi Alice, haven’t had a chance to catch up till tonight. The work sounds like it is such a blessing to those who receive it. It is so good to be able to provide those blessings for someone else. I let Keith know, we will probably not make it to the GC when you come back thru, but you are always welcome to stay here when you pass thru. The pool is still beautiful and the only thing that saved us this week when the a/c died. Fixed now, but what a week. Sunday night the a/c died. Fixed on Tues morn, and Tues night the Lexus died (yup Vic was driving it again.)…. But all these things become inconveniences when I read your blog. Keep up the good work and we’ll see you in Sept (or the end of Aug)…
Love
Jen

Hi Alice, Did you know that there is a great article about Sager Brown and the current work there in the July/August Response (UMW) Magazine? It has 2 pictures of people working at Chez Hope and one of work on a house damaged by a tornado. It was a very informative article.
Glad to know there were no bullet wounds.

Yes I did see the article in the magazine. One of the pictures shows a couple that has been here many times. They actually were here the week before we got the magazine. Have you shown the article to Lael?
